Ian Driscoll
Writer
Ian Driscoll has been making a living as a serious,
sans-serif writer for several years. Ian's Master's degree in English
Literature from the University of Ottawa focused on 20th century North
American literature, and culminated in graduation ceremonies where
he forcibly shook hands with Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek and kissed
Canadian astronaut Julie Payette.
Ian's association with Odessa Filmworks
began in 1998. By this time, Ian's reputation as a restlessly innovative
pulp fiction author had reached the ears of director Lee Demarbre,
who contracted Ian to write a voice over for the original Harry
Knuckles (1998). The success of the short led Demarbre and Driscoll
to re-team for a more ambitious project: a half-hour narrative
entitled
Harry Knuckles and Treasure of the Aztec Mummy (1999). Ian
also took the opportunity to collaborate with Ottawa funk sensation
The Hammerheads on songs for the film's soundtrack.
For the next project,
Driscoll went out on a limb, then turned around and started sawing.
Over the course of production and an endless series of rewrites,
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001) swelled to a feature length
film that became a biblical-level success with audiences and critics
across North American, Europe and as far away as Australia.
Other
recent projects include the fishing/cerebral palsy documentary
Where's Your Bobber? (2002), the made-for-television Harry
Knuckles and the Siege of the Leopard Lady (2003), the feature Harry
Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace (2004), and the digital shorts Bzzzzzzz (2005)
and Countdown to Coexistence (2005).
