Petr Maur
Graphic Designer, Stills Photographer
Petr Maur has been working with Odessa Filmworks since
1998 in positions that include Camera Consultant, Cameraman, Assistant
Director, Stills Photographer, Graphic Designer and Artistic Director.
He has participated in the completion of a number of Odessa productions,
including Harry
Knuckles (1998), Harry Knuckles and the
Treasure of the Aztec Mummy (1999), Jesus
Christ: Vampire Hunter (2001) Where's Your
Bobber? (2002),
Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace (2004) and the digital
short
Bzzzzzzz (2005). Often referred to as “a young Saul
Bass”,
Petr’s has designed dynamic and distinctive opening credits
sequences for most of Odessa Filmworks’ productions, perfectly
capturing the spirit of classic Hollywood and independent American
cinema cool.
Petr also produced and directed the video for a raucous
and raunchy ska version of “Karma Chameleon” by Ottawa
based band Freudhammer. The video premiered at the 2005 Independent
Filmmakers Cooperative of Ottawa (IFCO) Winter Gala, where it was
one of the evening’s most praised entries.
Well known in Ottawa
arts circles as one of the region’s most
prolific graphic designers, Petr’s work has represented the
Ottawa Fringe Festival (2001-2005) and the Independent Filmmakers
Cooperative of Ottawa (IFCO); he has also designed CD packaging
for such acclaimed artists as Ian Tamblyn, Hilotrons and Christine
Graves.
Petr’s photography and digital artworks have been exhibited
throughout the National Capital Region, to considerable acclaim.
His exhibition “Cybertronics” – a combination of
digital graphics and found objects combined to create art – are
on permanent display at Ottawa’s Café Dekcuf; his photo
series “Vampires” was
one of the highlight art shows at Sandy Hill’s venerable Dunvegan
Pub. Petr’s current projects include the completion of an Untitled
Documentary on the phenomenon of the annual Burning Man Festival
and editing of his long-anticipated time-travel art film Dye
Hexa Dream.
